Weekly CareerTHEME

click for more Do you smell smoke…
…only to discover that you are burning out from working too hard? A common occurrence these days when you have to work harder, smarter and longer to stay even. This week’s CareerTIPs – how to accelerate your career – not only resting from your work, but also resting in the work.

Daily CareerTIP® Advice

Monday - Too pooped to pop?
Take time to rest physically, mentally and spiritually to pass the test and be your best. Every hour – rest your eyes and ears for 2-5 minutes. Every week – 6 days work and 1 day rest. Every month – get a weekend away. Every year – take at least a week of vacation. Rest and renew for a brand new you.

Tuesday - No such thing as "time management"
But you can manage yourself in light of time flying by. Make the calendar and clock work for you. Plan, organize and follow-thru what you have to do. Schedule time for rest and block some time for doing nothing. Build in margin time for your schedule and buffer days in your calendar. Not only plan your work, but also plan your rest.

Wednesday - Rebuild your brain
If you feel brain-dead – eyes fixed and dilated with a touch of drool at the corner of your mouth. If it seems you only have two brain cells on duty, and not enough BTUs (British Thermal Units) for one brain cell to pass a thought to the other brain cell - then give your brain a break. Get a minimum of 6 hours of sleep at night, and, if possible, take at least a 20-minute nap during the day.

Thursday - Are you living a red-line life?
Are you burned out? Are you nearing a spin-out? Are you out of gas or out of alignment? It is time for a pit-stop. Even in the midst of the race, you have to pull off the track. Hit the pit for refueling, cleaning your windshield, changing tires and a few words of advice and encouragement. You have got to pace to win the race.

Friday - Be still - make more progress
Sometimes you get more gain if you stop pushing so hard. Try these two thoughts on for size: “The Lord will fight for you. You have only to be still.” Or how about: “Be still, and know that I am God.” There comes a point when you have done all you can do, and it’s no longer up to you.

Saturday - Rest in the midst of your work
Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.”

Sunday - The rule of rest
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work…” The Fourth Commandment from Exodus 20: 8-10a
