Daily CareerTIP® Advice

Monday - Diversity in the marketplace
Check these increasing U.S. Census numbers: 35.5 million Hispanic-Americans, 34.7 million African Americans, 11.9 Asian-Americans. "All told, the combined African-, Hispanic- and Asian-American buying power had grown to more than $750 billion. Minorities were now majorities in six of the eight largest metropolitan areas of the United States." From Winning with Diversity.

Tuesday - Diversity and unity together
More than just race/ethnic diversity, all differences can divide, when they should multiply. What can be stumbling blocks, should be building blocks. Diversity in race, sex, age, abilities, interests, personalities and values builds strong teams - especially in light of our country's increasingly diverse population and business globalization.

Wednesday - Division of labor multiplies success
"A fundamental reason for assembling a team is to have division of labor. By bringing together two or more people, you have the opportunity to focus multiple talents and maximize both effectiveness and efficiency." From Leading Teams, Leading Talents

Thursday - Bringing diversity into unity
The process of unity begins with understanding differences, followed by acceptance of and respect for those differences. It requires commitment to and continual communications of common purpose, vision and mission, as well as shared goals and values. From Leading Teams, Leading Talents

Friday - Common language facilitates diversity success
Words are important. When we share words with common meanings, we can commune together as a community in communication. For those who teach and learn a common language, "nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them."

Saturday - Top four effective diversity practices
According to the National Urban League study of Diversity Practices That Work, the top four themes are marketing to diverse customers and consumers, retaining diverse talent, recruiting diverse talent, and leadership commitment/involvement.

Sunday - United we stand...
...for “the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.”
